As mentioned in a previous post, I'm super psyched about the idea of a seed lending library in Ottawa. Not just me either but various folk are interested in this. No doubt all sorts of people I've never heard of are interested in this so I propose we get together and make this thing work.
My understanding is that there are various models including ones that link directly with the library and others that use nearby facilities. A seed bank may also work as a lending library too and there are possible proposals for this as well in the works in Ottawa.
So let me know so we can all grow.

Hello there,
I have been wanting to start this with my community garden for ages, but due to time and space constraints, have never gotten it started. I would love to be a part of this in Ottawa.
In our town, a re-design shop simply has a box called "the seed bank" on a shelf, and we put in our surplus seeds and take with us new, exciting ones. As a librarian, I of course prefer your name for the idea! :-)

A seed library is an institution that lends or shares seed. It is distinguished from a seedbank in that the main purpose is not to store or hold germplasm or seeds against possible destruction, but to disseminate them to the public which preserves the shared plant varieties through propagation and further sharing of seed.
That's the good thing about seed library.
